The South Louisiana Economic Council (SLEC) has announced that Christy Zeringue, PCED, has officially taken over as President and CEO. Zeringue, previously SLEC’s Chief Operating Officer, brings over 30 years of experience in the Bayou Region and a clear plan for the council’s future direction.

“It’s an exciting time to take the lead at SLEC,” Zeringue commented. “I’m eager to drive regional collaboration, capitalize on our strengths, and confront challenges like workforce retention and insurance concerns to ensure long-term growth of the Bayou Region.”

Chett Chiasson, Executive Director of Port Fourchon and SLEC Board President, voiced the board’s support for Zeringue’s leadership. “We are excited about Christy’s transition to CEO. Her practical approach and dedication to the region make her the right person to lead SLEC into the future.”

In her new role, Zeringue is focused on supporting the Bayou Region’s established industries while actively pursuing new growth opportunities. She has already begun enhancing SLEC’s role as a key resource for businesses by addressing workforce development, improving quality of place, and fostering stronger partnerships between local governments, businesses, and educational institutions to build a more resilient and sustainable economy.

At the same time, Zeringue is committed to retaining young talent and attracting new residents by promoting the region’s expanding job market and robust educational opportunities. Her goal is to position the Bayou Region as a prime location for both career growth and family life, ensuring long-term vitality and appeal for future generations.
