October 7, 2019The Thibodaux Police Department is investigating a homicide that happened this morning just before 4 a.m.
Chief of Police Bryan Zeringue said that at 3:58 a.m., TPD received a call of a shooting that took place in the 1300 block of St. Charles Street.
When Police arrived, they discovered a victim, Jason Steib, 27, of Thibodaux, had been shot multiple times.
Medical personnel arrived and the victim was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Chief Zeringue said the case is being investigated as a possible murder.
“We do not believe that this is a random shooting,” said Chief Bryan Zeringue. “Our thoughts and our prayers are with the loved ones of the victim.”
This investigation is ongoing and the Thibodaux Police Department Criminal Investigations Division has been working diligently, following every lead necessary to apprehend any and all responsible parties involved.
Chief Zeringue added that “We will utilize every resource available to apprehend the at large suspect and any other suspects that may become relevant to the investigation”. Chief Zeringue would like to assure our community partners that this was an isolated event and the safety of all citizens is our number one priority. As more information becomes available we will update the public accordingly.
