Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Tim Soignet announced the arrest of a Montegut man in connection with a Domestic Violence investigation, that was reported early Sunday morning. Dakota G. Deroche, 33, of Montegut, was arrested for charges of Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property, Home Invasion, Stalking, and Interfering with the Emergency System, in connection with the incident.


 

On October 20 , shortly after 9am, TPSO Patrol Deputies were called to a residence in the 400 block of Westside Blvd, in reference to reports of a disturbance at the home. Authorities arrived on scene and learned from the victim that a disturbance occurred, which involved Dakota G. Deroche, whom she identified as an ex-fiancé’ The victim provided specific information about the incident to Authorities, who also observed obvious signs of a physical disturbance and injuries to the victim.

 

During the investigation, Deputies learned from the victim that as she was leaving a store, she noticed Deroche was waiting for her, and he proceeded to follow her as she left the store. While driving near her home, Deroche intentionally caused a vehicle crash with her vehicle, on two separate occasions. Later, Deroche arrived at the victim’s residence where he forced his way into the home, and an additional physical confrontation ensued. The victim managed to escape the residence and contacted Authorities.

 

Deputies were unable to located Deroche at the time of the incident, but did obtain warrants for his arrest in connection with the investigation.

 

On October 21, 2024, shortly before 1pm, Dakota G. Deroche was located as a result of a traffic stop near Thompson Road. Deroche was immediately arrested and later transported to the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex, where he remains jailed on an $86,000 bond by local judges. The identity of the victim is not being released at this time.

 

Sheriff Tim Soignet said, “Domestic Violence incidents are unfortunately all too common in this day and age, and affect all communities. Our agency takes a very proactive approach to Domestic Violence incidents, and will continue to do so due to the propensity for violence associated with them. I commend the job done by our Patrol Deputies, who responded quickly and took control of a very dangerous situation. Our agency will continue to work with the victim in this case to bring safety and justice to her life.”
