November 9, 2023UPDATE: DOTD HAS REOPENED THE DULARGE BRIDGE at 10:41 A.M. ON NOVEMBER 8.
From the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) – Both lanes of the Dularge Bridge will be closed until further notice.
The Dularge Bascule Bridge on LA 315 crossing the Intracoastal Canal Waterway (ICWW) in Houma, LA is closed to vehicular traffic in both directions due to a marine vessel allision with the movable bridge spans. Damage was sustained to the span locking mechanism(s) that lock the two (2) leafs of the bascule bridge together in the down position. Initial reports indicate that the vessel captain had not asked for a bridge opening, with the intent of passing under the spans with enough clearance under the span. DOTD bridge maintenance and inspection personnel are assessing the damage to determine what course of action is necessary to get the bridge operational and re-opened to vehicular traffic.
Alternate routes available for crossing the ICWW are: LA 661 (South Van Ave.) to LA 57 (Grand Caillou Road) to LA 3040 (Tunnel Blvd.) to U.S. 90 (Barrow St.) to LA 315. LA 661 (South Van Ave.) to LA 57 (Grand Caillou Road) to LA 24 (Twin Span Bridge) to U.S. 90 (Barrow St.) to LA 315.
