Grand Isle has completed an exciting project just in time for summer crowds.

The town is pleased to announce that the Grand Isle Dune and Beach Restoration Project is officially finished, rendering the island stronger than ever.

Renowned for its world-class fishing and known as Louisiana’s only inhabited barrier island, Grand Isle suffered severe damage when Hurricane Ida made landfall in August of 2021. Now, restoration projects such as this are working to preserve the island for locals and tourists alike.

“In partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, CPRA, and local officials, this historic effort marks a major step forward in Grand Isle’s recovery after Hurricane Ida,” said Grand Isle in a statement. “This project not only restores our coastline — it protects our people, our homes, and our way of life. Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible.”

The Dune and Beach Restoration Project included 4 miles of beach and dunes rebuilt to an elevation +13.5’, breakwaters and the West Jetty renourished, flood protection improvements underway, and public beach access preserved through designated crossovers.
