February 2, 2023Nicholls State University head football coach Time Rebowe announced the 21-member recruiting class for 2023 on Wednesday, January 1, 2023 as part of National Signing Day at the Boucvalt Athletic Complex.
Nicholls officially welcomed five signees in December and added 16 on Wednesday for its second straight class of 20 or more recruits. All 14 high school signees are from Louisiana and another three transfers are from the Pelican State. The Colonels welcomed a total of seven transfers including two from Mississippi, and one each from Alabama and Ohio.
Nicholls loaded up on linemen with 10 of the 21 signees playing on the interior. On offense, the Colonels signed Jordan Aaron (Columbia/Pearl River CC), Justin Howard (De La Salle), Jacob Johnson (Catholic), Colby Orgeron (Curtis/Tulane/Highland CC), Aaron Ponson (Helen Cox), Hamza Rahman (Scotlandville), and Ethan Reynolds (E.D. White). For the defensive side, the linemen were Aidan Clements (E.D. White), Josh Johnson (Catholic), and Joe Mason (Green Oaks /LA Tech).
The defense added four players in the secondary – Hunter Addison (North Desoto), Devonte’ Mathews (Central/West Georgia), Matt Melancon (E.D. White), and Kendarius Smith (Fort Walton Beach/EMCC), and linebacker Kershawn Fisher (Northshore/LA Tech).
Rounding out the class were wide receivers Gil Chapman (Helen Cox), Jackson Dufrene (C.E. Byrd), and Karaaz Johnson (St. Augustine), tight end Justin Brooks (John Curtis), quarterback Pat McQuaide (Solon HS/Kent St/MGCCC), and running back Jayden Milton (Berwick).
