The Nicholls State University women’s basketball team will begin Southland Conference play in a home game against Southeastern on Thursday, Jan.4 at 6:30 pm inside Stopher Gym and at Houston Christian on Saturday, Jan 6 at 1 p.m. Both Contests will be streamed via ESPN+.

Nicholls (6-6) is looking to start the calendar year with a spark after dropping their final two non-conference games to UAB and Grambling. The Colonels are leading the all-time series with Southeastern 17-15 and HCU 10-7.

The Red & Gray is led by sophomore forward Lexi Alexander who leads the team in points (12.8) and rebounds (5.5) per game. She currently ranks seventh in the SLC in both categories.


Freshman guard Britiya Curtis averages 10.3 points per game and is one of the most efficient scorers in the in league. She currently ranks 8th in the SLC in 3pt percentage (.382) and 11th in the SLC in fg percentage (.433). Additionally, she is one of 4 players in the SLC with more than 20 made 3pt field goals.

Senior guard Kyla Hamilton and junior forward Deonna Brister average 7.5 and 6.9 points per game, respectively. Freshman guard Betzalys Delgado paces the Colonels’ offense with 42 total assists which is the second-most in the SLC.

The Colonels welcome the defending SLC champions Southeastern (4-7) who enters the weekend on a four-game losing streak that include losses to Oregon State and Tulsa in the Maui Jim Maui Classic.


The Lady Lions are led by Hailey Giaratono who scores 13.2 points and grabs 4.8 rebounds per game. Cheyanne Daniels leads the team in rebounds (4.8) while scoring 9.8 points per game.

HCU will begin league play on Wednesday, Jan. 3 in a road game at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The Huskies are led by N’Denasija Collins who averages 13.8 points while shooting 51.3 percent from the field and 5.9 rebounds. Kennedy Wilson averages 9.7 points and a team-best 2.8 assists per contest.
