James “Jim” Taylor Folse, 72, a native and resident of Lockport, La., was entrusted to God’s loving care at 9:41 a.m. Friday, October 17, at his residence.


He is survived by his son, Jacques Folse and wife Rhonda of Raceland, La.; daughter, Cynthia Folse Mire and husband John of Lockport; brothers, Robert and wife Betty Folse of Lockport and Eugene and wife Audrey Folse of Raceland; and grandchildren, Joseph Folse, Megan Mire, Philip Mire and Tabitha Mire.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith “Poochie” Jones Folse; and parents, Adolph Folse and Jeanne Toups Folse.

He was a Christian who proudly served in the U.S. Navy as a “Frog-man” on an underwater demolition team. After his Navy service, he owned and operated the Western Auto store in Lockport. The store later became known as THE hardware store. He was a pilot and enjoyed flying with friends and family. He was a parishioner of St. Hilary Catholic Church. He graduated from Holy Savior Catholic High School and Spencer Business College in New Orleans, La. He was a member of the Lockport Rotary Club and the Knights of Columbus.


In lieu of flowers, donations may be made payable to the American Parkinson’s Disease Association, Bayou Chapter, PO Box 405, Thibodaux, La., 70302 or the Holy Savior Catholic School, 612 Main St., Lockport, La., 70374.

Memorial visitation will be 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday, October 25, at Holy Savior Catholic Church with mass to follow. Committal will follow at the church cemetery.
