August 7, 2013Sylvia Ruffin Wilson, 78, a native and resident of Morgan City, La., died Wednesday, July 24, 2013.
Mrs. Wilson earned a Bachelor of Science in Second Education degree from Southern University in Baton Rouge, La. She retired from the St. Mary Parish School system after 38 years of teaching algebra, typing, bookkeeping and shorthand. She and the late Irma White formed the New Zorah Baptist Church choir and then the New Zorah mass choir. She loved to travel, shop, eat, ride and most of all visit other churches.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, John Wilson; daughters, Sandra (Alvin) Wilkerson and Joan and Tracey Wilson; stepson, John Cooper Sr.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Nathan and Julia Ruffin; parents, Arthur and Julia Ruffin; and brother, Shelby Ruffin Sr.
Visitation will be 5:30 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, at Mt. Esther Baptist Church and 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, at Siracusa Recreation Center with services to follow. Interment will be at Morgan City Mausoleum. (Jones)
