October 30, 2024William “Ray” Stewart Jr., 76, a native of Columbus, GA and long time resident of Montegut, LA passed away on October 29, 2024.
Ray is survived by his children, Clinton Stewart and wife Annie, Stacie Stevenson and husband Mark, and Sara Stewart and fiancé Mike Ainsworth; grandchildren, Macie Stevenson, William Stevenson, Travis Autin, Seth Autin Jr., Austin Stewart, and Cate Picou. He is also survived by his brother Daniel Stewart and wife Lisa; nephew Brett Stewart; and his devoted caregiver and mother of his children Karen Stewart.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William (Bill) Ray Stewart Sr. and Alice Songer Stewart.
After graduating high school, Ray went to trade school in Columbus to become an electrician, after graduation, he was drafted into the United States Army to serve in the Vietnam War. Upon his return from overseas, Ray found his way down to Louisiana to work in the oilfield. He was a hard worker and spent many years as an electrician offshore to support his family. He made his life here in Louisiana but after retirement returned to his home state of Georgia.
When Ray was home, he could be found working on some kind of project outdoors. He could fix just about anything. He was usually outside from sunup to sundown. He worked on cars, built many things, and had a green thumb.
Ray was truly loved and will surely be missed. His good work ethic, sharp wit, and sense of humor will live on in his children and grandchildren.
Per Ray’s wishes, his family will have a private memorial.
