January 23, 2020The Nicholls State University baseball program received a $50,000 gift commitment from alum Matthew Ory and AMO Trial Lawyers.
The commitment will be used for the construction of an enhanced entrance plaza at Ben Meyer Diamond at Ray E. Didier Field.
“We are so appreciative of Matt and his partners at AMO Trial Lawyers for this leadership commitment,” Director of Nicholls Athletics Matt Roan said. “With the support of the Nicholls Foundation, Matt’s generosity allows us to enhance the look of an already special facility with this new gateway and ticket booth. This kind of support is what allows all of our programs to continue to excel.”
TPP Construction Group of Thibodaux is handling the improvements.
Construction is underway and is expected to be completed before the start of the 2020 season, which will be at home on home on Friday, Feb. 14.
“I can’t thank Matthew enough for what he’s done for us,” said Seth Thibodeaux, Colonels baseball head coach. “His enthusiasm, energy and pride are infectious. It’s important to him that we elevate recruiting and our game atmosphere. He recently spoke to our players and really touched them with his attitude toward being the best. This just proves that.”
Ory, a Thibodaux native, graduated cum laude at Nicholls with a degree in political science and was a member of the baseball team.
He is now a practicing attorney and owner of AMO Trial Lawyers and AMO Title Services.
“We understand that in order for our businesses to continue to thrive, we have to do our part to help the community grow,” Ory said. “There are two baseball programs that have a top 20 attendance in the nation year in and year out. By developing a state-of-the-art facility and creating a unique baseball atmosphere, there is no reason whatsoever that Nicholls can’t do the same. It’s time to put this program on the map and the time is now.”
