Two men described as “habitual offenders” were arrested by the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office this past weekend — each charged for allegedly driving a vehicle While under the influence of alcohol.

At around 5:20 pm. on Friday, August 4, LPSO deputies responded to a gas station in Bayou Blue in reference to a driver having fallen asleep behind the Wheel of a vehicle.

Authorities made contact with the man, identifying him as Lonnie LeBouef, 39, of Bridge City.

Authorities said they detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his presence and once awake, the suspect was allegedly showing signs of possible intoxication.

Authorities said LeBouef admitted to having consumed several alcoholic beverages before driving.

LeBouef also told deputies that he was not drunk, but he refused to submit to a field sobriety test or a breath test.

Authorities obtained a search warrant for LeBouef’s blood, which was drawn. Results are pending. He was booked with fourth-offense DWI and no driver’s license. He was also booked as a fugitive of Jefferson Parish.

A day later, authorities also stopped a vehicle in Thibodaux, noting a strong odor of alcohol coming from the driver, Dwight Southall, 47, of Belle Rose.

Southall refused to submit to a field sobriety test or a breath test, which led authorities to get a search warrant to draw blood.

Results are pending.

Southall, too, had previous DWI-related arrests, according to records pulled by LPSO.

He is charged with third-offense DWI, driving under suspension and failure to dim headlights.
