October 23, 2010John “Johnny” Melancon Sr., 69, a native of New Orleans, La., and resident of Cut Off, La., died at 9:19 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18, 2010.
Mr. Melancon was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and a member of the Rotary Club and Greater Lafourche Port Commission. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and was a self-employed boat owner.
He is survived by his wife, Gilda Hebert Melancon; sons, John Jr. (Rosiland), Mike (Annie), and Reggie (Juanita) Melancon, and Shane Gaspard; daughters, Joann “Josie” (Danielle Doucet) Melancon and Tritha (Chance) Duet; sisters, Mary Plaisance and Jane (Van) Fosters; seven grandchildren, Vanessa Pierce, Katie Duet, and Reggie, Michelle, Lauren, Maggie, and Johnette “Jonie” Melancon; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Audrey Thibodaux Melancon; parents, Theogene and Eva Cheramie Melancon; brother-in-law, Eves Plaisance; brothers, Edward, Tillman, Woodrow, T.J. and Jimmy Melancon; and sisters, Emily and Jack Melacon and Doris Williams.
He is buried at Cheramie Cemetery.
