Q&A Meet Lois Cantrelle
November 11, 2015Terrebonne General Medical Center’s commitment and success in treating stroke patients was recognized Oct. 15 by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association.
The medical center received the Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Gold Quality Achievement Award, an honor given to those institutions that demonstrate at least 85 percent compliance in each of seven measurements. The stroke module, now in its 12th year, tracks and measures patient treatments and outcomes. The program also supports participating hospitals across the country by providing the most recent research, educational opportunities, performance feedback and more for continuous quality improvement.
To be considered for this recognition, hospitals must prove they operate within the designated measures for two or more consecutive 12-month periods. The measures are designed to help hospital teams adhere to the most up-to-date, evidence-based guidelines in order to speed up recovery and reduce death and disability of stroke patients.
TGMC focused on appropriate use of medications like clot-busting and anti-clotting drugs, blood thinners and cholesterol-reducing drugs, preventative action for deep vein thrombosis and smoking cessation counseling.
“This prestigious acknowledgement demonstrates TGMC’s commitment to ensuring patients receive the best care, based on nationally-respected clinical guidelines,” TGMC President and CEO Phyllis Peoples said. •
