Gators lose heartbreaker

Mayor Emeritus Alton J. “Checkerboard” Roundtree Sr., 93, a resident and native of Thibodaux, La., died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2006.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, 2006, at Landry’s Funeral Home in Thibodaux, La., and from 8 a.m. until funeral time, Monday, Nov. 13, 2006, at St. Joseph Co-Cathedral in Thibodaux, La.
A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 12 p.m. Monday, Nov. 13, 2006, at St. Joseph Co-Cathedral. Burial will be held at the St. Joseph Cemetary.
He is survived by his wife, Floyce Hawsey Roundtree; two sons, Alton J. Roundtree Jr. and Gwain J. Roundtree; four daughters, Moyebeth R. Cullen, Patricia R. Roundtree, Cynthia R. Riche, and Renelee R. Hebert; 21 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; four stepchildren, Allen Hawsey, Renee H. Martin, Andy Hawsey, and Candace Hawsey; 11 stepgrandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren, and one brother, Hale J. Roundtree.
Mr. Roundtree is preceded in death by his first wife, Idola Diez Roundtree, and second wife, Frances “Tut” Musso Roundtree; his parents, Joseph Frank and Cecile Boudreaux Roundtree; one daughter, Betty R. Ordoyne; two sisters, Dorothy R. Templet and June R. Boudreaux; and five great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to St. Joseph Hospice, NSU Scholarship Fund, and St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
Landry’s Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
