January 19, 2018A 49-year-old Thibodaux man is in custody of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office after he led authorities on a pursuit.
After his arrest, the suspect also allegedly admitted to his role in multiple burglaries.
Detectives had been investigating multiple burglaries in the Central Lafourche area over the past several weeks and on Jan. 9, 2018, another burglary was reported at a residence on the 2700 block of La. Highway 308 in Raceland.
Authorities said forced entry was made at the rear door of the residence and several items were stolen during the burglary, including jewelry and food.
Authorities were able to get a vehicle description for the suspect, a blue 2005 Jeep Liberty, which helped them to identify Kip Bryant, 49, of Thibodaux, as the suspect.
Around 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday, authorities located Bryant driving northbound on La. Highway 1 in his vehicle.
Deputies conducted a traffic stop just south of Lafourche Crossing in Thibodaux, ordering Bryant out of his vehicle, but he refused to comply.
Bryant then fled the traffic stop, heading northbound on La. Highway 1. Deputies followed the suspect, who was traveling at a high rate of speed.
Thibodaux Police Officers were notified and responded to assist.
Bryant continued onto North Canal Boulevard and he drove toward the Harang Municipal Auditorium where he stopped and attempted to flee on foot.
He was apprehended soon thereafter by TPD officers.
Detectives made contact with Bryant after his arrest and during questioning, he allegedly admitted to burglarizing three residences. Multiple stolen articles were found in the vehicle.
Bryant was taken to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center, booked on three counts of simple burglary. He was additionally booked as a fugitive of Terrebonne Parish for a warrant for contempt of court.
His bond is set at $175,000.
Additional charges are pending in connection with the pursuit.
Lafourche Sheriff Craig Webre said he wants to thank Thibodaux Police Chief Brian Zeringue and TPD for their help in apprehending the suspect.
Kip Bryant, 49, of Thibodaux, allegedly broke into several homes in the Central Lafourche area, then led officers on a high speed chase through Thibodaux. By the time it was over, officers had charged Bryant with three counts of simple burglary, as well as a warrant for contempt of court in Terrebonne Parish. He is held on a $175,000 bond.
