4 TGMC team members named ‘Health Care Heroes’

Family medicine Dr. Ray Cinnater, cardiologists Dr. Peter Fail and Vinod Nair, and Percy Mosley, director of protective services at Terrebonne General Medical Center were named 2016 Health Care Heroes by New Orleans CityBusiness.

Each year, the publication awards 50 health-care professions in the Greater New Orleans area who have achieved medical success or made significant contributions to the industry.

In his 45 years of treating patients, Cinnater contributed to opening one of Terrebonne’s first clinics.

Interventional cardiologists Fail and Nair practice at TGMC and Cardiovascular Institute of the South. The two have developed their own state-of-the-art cardiovascular software suit through Objective Medical Systems, which efficiently manages vital patient heart care information, streamlines physicians’ work and reduces error potential.

Mosley served as a lieutenant with the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office prior to joining TGMC’s staff. He volunteers time to the Wounded Warrior Project and CASA (Court-Appointed Special Advocate), and cooks at many TGMC events and local high schools affiliated with TGMC’s Community Sports Institute.

Alea Veals, a phlebotomist in TGMC’s lab and pathology department is the hospital’s May Employee of the Month.

Veals has been at TGMC for more than three years. She is credited with willingly working extra shifts and assisting other locations in the hospital when needed. She is described as an outstanding role model whose versatility, positive attitude and willingness to do whatever’s needed.

“I enjoy working at TGMC because I like being of service in my community,” Veals said. “At TGMC, I have the opportunity to touch patients’ lives every day.”

Synergy Bank expands in Thibodaux

The 4,500-square-foot office will employ eight staffers and will feature four drive-up lanes, a drive-up ATM, night depository and safe deposit boxes.

“The Thibodaux location on La. We are excited to open this branch to the local community and continue to provide excellent customer service in Lafourche Parish.”

Contractor Tate Construction Group LLC expects the project will be complete by the year’s end.

TGMC earns 2 ACR accreditations

Terrebonne General Medical Center’s magnetic resonance imaging and computer tomography have received a three-year term of accreditation from the American College of Radiology.

TGMC also holds accreditations from the ACR in mammography, ultrasound, nuclear medicine and PET/CT.

The hospital recently installed a 1.5 Tesla Discovery MRI system. TGMC uses a Revolution Cat Scan system for CT. Both provide noninvasive medical testing. The MRI provides anatomical images of internal body parts, whle the CT helps doctors diagnose and tailor treatments.

The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. It is awarded based on image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs.

“TGMC is pleased to once again earn the ACR gold seal for MRI and CT,” Phyllis Peoples, hospital president and CEO, said. “Our dedicated physicians and staff work hard to provide quality, state-of-the-art radiology services to our patients and it is an honor to receive this national recognition.”

TGMC Maternity Care earns Blue Distinction Center designation

Terrebonne General Medical Center is tickled blue … with its national Blue Distinction Center designation for maternity care.

TGMC is one of the first hospitals to receive the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana designation, which is intended to alert BCBS clients that the hospital provides quality maternity care.

“We are pleased to be one of the first hospitals in our region to receive this prestigious designation,” TGMC President and CEO Phyllis Peoples said. “TGMC is committed to providing outstanding maternity care and the Blue Distinction assures our patients they are receiving the highest quality care possible.”

The Blue Distinction Centers for Maternity Care program evaluates hospitals on several quality measures, including the percentage of elective delivery newborns, an ongoing concern in the medical community because early term babies are more prone to health care issues.

TGMC’s care and programs to promote successful breastfeeding, as well as overall patient satisfaction and cost efficiency factored into the Blue Distinction.
