Bollinger Shipyards has passed the one-year mark without incurring any lost time accidents at its construction facilities in both Lockport and Algiers.

With various safety measures implemented, the Bollinger facility in Port Fourchon reached a 10-year mark without loss time accidents listed, and Bollinger Marine Fabricators posted 2.7 million man-hours without loss time accidents.

“Bollinger is committed to safety in its workforce, support for our community, and respect for the environment,” Executive Vice President of Repair Ben Bordelon said.

Bordelon credited a combined effort of all employees in making for a successful safety program. Elements of the company’s achievement include training opportunities, inspections and recommendations for improvements.

The Bollinger safety program, according to Bordelon, is targeted to continually raise the bar on health, safety and environmental compliance for the protection of employees, contractors and customers.

Bordelon offered a reminder that in April, the Shipbuilders Council of America presented the 2010 Award in Excellence in Safety to Bollinger.

The award is offered to member companies that carry a year-end recorded incident rate below the average SCA rate.

Bollinger has received the Award of Excellence in Safety for six consecutive years.

Bollinger is a leading ship designer and builder of ocean going double-hull barges, offshore oil field support vessels, tug boats, rigs, lift boats, inland waterway push boats and barges, military patrol boats and additional shipyard products.

Bollinger is the largest vessel repair company in the Gulf of Mexico region with 31 dry docks in Louisiana and Texas. The company also has 12 shipyards located between New Orleans and Houston with direct access to the Intracoastal Waterway.
