Lafourche authorities make sizeable drug arrest, thanks to tip from the public
An anonymous tip to the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office had led to the arrest of a 57-year-old Galliano man, who is now facing multiple drug charges.
Authorities said they got a tip through Bayou Region Crime Stoppers stating that Alan Cheramie, 57, of Galliano, was in possession of large amounts of narcotics, which he planned to sell.
Deputies said they went to Cheramie’s residence on Jan. 31 and made contact with the suspect at his door.
Deputies said they detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the residence, which led to a search warrant being obtained.
While searching the residence, investigators discovered over 250 ounces of suspected marijuana, five Hydrocodone pills, six Clonazapam pills, one Benzphetamine pill, various drug paraphernalia and approximately $400 in cash.
Cheramie was arrested and taken to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center. He is charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, Hydrocodone and Clonazepam, as well as possession of Benzphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
His bond is set at $65,500.
Lafourche Sheriff Craig Webre said the case is an example of how valuable Crime Stoppers can be.
He said he wanted to thank citizens for participating in crime prevention.
