December 9, 2010The Thibodaux Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominations for its top public honors to be presented at the organization’s annual banquet Jan. 20, 2011.
The three awards n the Frank Kennedy Citizen of the Year, Teenager of the Year and Music’s Unsung Hero n are designed to recognize Thibodaux citizens who have gone above and beyond to better the city, according to chamber director Kathy Benoit.
The Citizen of the Year Award is given to a person who contributes to Thibodaux’s business community and economic development, contributes to improving locals’ quality of life through works or deeds and is an exemplary citizen.
Benoit said nominees must be a resident or an immediate past resident of Thibodaux or the surrounding area, and may not hold public office.
Meanwhile, the Teenager of the Year honor is given to a Thibodaux High or E.D. White High senior. A $500 cash scholarship is awarded based on enthusiastic community service, dedication and commitment to education, excellence in school pride, leadership abilities and academically acceptable achievements.
The Music’s Unsung Hero Award is presented for a person’s effort in promoting music as a culturally elevating experience. Benoit said nominees need not be musically inclined; however, he or she must be a lover of music, supporting all forms of musical arts on a volunteer basis. Professional musicians will not be excluded from consideration if their volunteer work is of exceptional value, she said.
