CALM CONDITIONS, WARM WEATHER EQUALS BIG-TIME FISH & FUN
May 10, 2018Kaylee Linag was crowned the Rougarou Queen 3018 this past weekend at the Rougarou Ball, which took place at the Houma Municipal Auditorium.
The event is an annual fund raiser for the Wetlands Discovery Center, and the queen competition, including costume, story and onstage interview, must reflect the importance of preserving those disappearing ecosystems.
Linaq, in her enchanting swamp attire, regaled the audience with her story, that she rose from the swamp at every full moon to search for villains harming her wetlands. When captured she would imprison them in a cage filled with the skulls and bones of presumably previous captives. The competition is a team effort.
Her team’s moniker was the Rougarou Queen and the Pull Moons and included Kathryn Holloway and Ashley Brouillette.
The night was a fan feet of food, auctions and entertainment with music courtesy of the H.L. Bourgeois Jazz Band.

When the Wetlands Discovery Centers executive director, Jonathan Foret interviewed Murphy onstage, she revealed she was the proud mother of six eons and an Alpaca rancher.
A group of ballerinas ware also on hand. They performed a dance recalling icons of Louisiana folklore including the fifolets, the Rougarou and the pirate, Lafitte.
Another highlight of the evening was a skit spoofing The Dating Game’ in which Murphy played the bachelorette questioning three bachelors two of whom were crazy Cajnn characters played by Norby Chabert and Eric Duplantis whose antics had the entire room laughing nonstop.
Child actor, Moosie Drier, played bachelor No. 3. The Rougarou Queen will reign over the Rougarou Fest this October 20-21, 2018.
