Nicholls archivist was key to solving slavery-era mystery
March 28, 2017Della Blanchard, 95, a native of Raceland, La., and resident of Houma, La., died on Thursday, March 23, 2017.
Mrs. Blanchard was a faithful servant to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and she enjoyed reading, working in her yard and watching the birds. She was known for her delicious blackberry jelly, apple dumplings and pecan pralines.
She is survived by her son, Kenneth (Sherry) Blanchard; daughter, Judith (Earl) Hicks; brother, Andrew Acrement; sisters, Doris Daigneault and Sarah LeJendre; seven grandchildren and one step-grandchild; and eighteen great-grandchildren.
Burial is at St. Ann Catholic Church Cemetery in Bourg.
