The Terrebonne Parish Animal Shelter has earned the recognition as a 2023 Beacon of No-Kill Excellence shelter from the esteemed Best Friends Animal Society.  The certificate was issued based on their exemplary commitment to save all healthy and treatable cats and dogs in the shelter.

In response to this recognition, the Terrebonne Parish Animal Shelter expressed their pride and gratitude. “We are proud to be recognized by national animal welfare organizations like Best Friends Animal Society! We are grateful for their partnership in our quest to help people and animals!” the shelter stated.

Best Friends’ Network partners, including the Terrebonne Parish Animal Shelter, have achieved a commendable 90 percent Save Rate, marking a significant milestone in the journey toward a no-kill nation by 2025. However, even as leaders in the field, these no-kill organizations face new challenges in sustaining their lifesaving efforts.

To support these organizations in maintaining their life-saving initiatives, the Rachael Ray No-Kill Excellence Grants have been instrumental. These grants fund projects that not only help no-kill organizations maintain their high save rates but also assist other organizations in their communities to reach the crucial 90 percent threshold.

The funded projects, supported by the Rachael Ray No-Kill Excellence Grants, are anticipated to cover a range of areas, including:

  • Helping hard-to-place animals: Focusing on finding homes for animals that face challenges in adoption due to various reasons.
  • Meeting critical staffing and medical needs: Ensuring the shelter has the necessary manpower and medical resources to provide optimal care.
  • Impacting regional growth: Collaborating with neighboring communities to expand the reach of the no-kill movement.
  • Community mentorship programs: Sharing knowledge and expertise to encourage other organizations to adopt no-kill practices.
  • Innovative animal shelter operations: Implementing creative and effective strategies within the shelter to enhance the adoption process and animal well-being.

This accolade not only celebrates the Terrebonne Parish Animal Shelter’s achievements but also highlights the collective effort of communities and organizations striving to make a difference in the lives of animals. As they continue their vital work, the our stands as a beacon of hope and compassion, inspiring others to join the movement toward a no-kill nation.
