A Houma woman was shot Easter Sunday at her Southdown West subdivision home by her 32-year-old son, said police, who apprehended the suspect shortly after the incident occurred.
The suspect, identified by police as Christopher Maloz, 32, was booked into the Terrebonne Parish jail on a charge of attempted 2nd degree murder. Lt. Travis Theriot, a Houma PD spokesman, said Maloz’s mother was transported to a nearby hospital but that he was not aware of her condition.
Theriot also said the circumstances surrounding the incident are not yet known to him.
Police were called to the 1300 block of Levee Drive, near the well-traveled intersection of St. Charles Avenue and Valhi Blvd. shortly before 6 p.m. Sunday following a report that a woman had been shot.
Maloz was apprehended shortly after their arrival. Terrebonne Parish deputies also responded to assist.
The Maloz residence is a brick home with a neatly-kept lawn. The heavy presence of police in the vicinity drew strong interest from residents and passersby. St. Charles in that area is a busy street with several popular businesses.
Theriot said an investigation into the incident is continuing.
Christopher Maloz, according to available records, had an arrest in 2012 for drug possession but does not appear to have a history of violent crimes.
