March 15, 2018A Larose man was given his third DWI, among other charges, this past weekend, after he allegedly tried to run over a deputy while driving drunk.
At around 1:45 a.m. on March 10, a deputy observed a motorcycle operator, later identified as Mark Gautreaux, 27, of Larose, turn left onto the lift bridge at East 29th Street in Cut Off.
Gautreaux then got onto the bridge in a careless manner, stopped on the bridge and fell off his motorcycle.
The deputy proceeded to the bridge to investigate, exiting his vehicle to approach Gautreaux on foot, giving him loud commands.
Authorities said the suspect ignored those commands, got back onto his motorcycle and proceeded forward with the deputy directly in his path. The deputy side-stepped the assault and maneuvered to force Gautreaux to the ground.
The suspect resisted and struck the deputy in the face with his helmet before being taken into custody.
The deputy had minor injuries in the incident.
The deputy noticed the smell of an alcoholic beverage on Gautreaux’s breath during the time of arrest and the suspect admitted to drinking prior to operating the motorcycle. During a breath test, Gautreaux was found to have a BAC of .182g%, which is more than double the legal limit.
Authorities also learned that Gautreaux had been arrested for his second DWI just a month prior – on Feb. 11, 2018.
Gautreaux was booked into the Lafourche Jail – charged with DWI (third offense), aggravated assault with a motor vehicle upon a peace officer, resisting an officer with force or violence and careless operation of a motor vehicle.
He was released after posting his $75,100 bond.
