Golden Meadow-Fourchon Tarpon Rodeo again a hit
July 9, 2019A suspect wanted for the May 15 murder of Kirby Courteaux Jr. is now in the custody of the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office.
This afternoon, authorities responded to a tip that Devante Matthews was at an address on West Main Street in Grey.
Col. Terry Daigre, TPSO’s Chief Criminal Deputy, said shortly around 3 p.m., deputies discovered that Matthews was, indeed, at the residence and he was taken into custody.
On May 14, TPSO began investigating the disappearance of Courteaux Jr., a Montegut native, after a family member reported him missing since May 11.
On May 15, TPSO deputies and detectives apprehended Terance Dupre, who faces a second-degree murder charge in the case. He is in custody in Lafourche Parish, as is a juvenile, who was also arrested in the case. The victim’s body was found dumped in Morgan City.
Since mid-May, authorities had identified Matthews as a suspect in the case, but until today, he remained on the run.
Matthews, too, is now charged with second-degree murder.
Col. Daigre said investigation into the case is on-going.
