Not your average QB: THS star shines, despite desire to be halfback
October 9, 2013A Houma church reprises its autumn event where charity mixes with fun.
Grace Lutheran Church, at 422 Valhi Blvd., champions charitable causes through entertainment Oct. 26 with its 14th annual Fall Festival.
Scheduled events include live music by Christian bands, arts and crafts booths, a rummage sale, a raffle and a silent auction. Attendees are invited to take a hayride.
Food and drinks are sold, and many of the activities, such as face painting, a bounce house and a climbing wall, do cost money.
The church’s country store is also open during the event.
“This place is so busy, it’s like a beehive,” said Jerri Fitzgerald, a festival organizer. “We’re in a league by ourselves. You’ve got a really neat concept here.”
Festival organizers and the church take pride in giving back, as the proceeds are split among four charitable organizations each year.
This year’s recipients are St. Vincent de Paul’s free Tri-parish pharmacy, the Bunk House Inn, Food for the Poor and the Terrebonne Churches United Food Bank. The food bank is slated to receive the largest share, $20,000.
The Fall Fest runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.
Alcohol is neither served nor permitted on festival grounds.
“This is one of the last few church festivals that you’ll hear about,” Fitzgerald said.
