You can donate money to Cerebral Palsy of Louisiana and appear on camera or have your name read on-air the first weekend of August during the Bayou Area Telethon for Cerebral Palsy. The event, held at the Houma-Terrebonne Civic Center on Saturday, Aug. 2, from 4 to 10 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 3, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., is open to the public.

The telethon will be shown live on Comcast Channel 21 and Charter Channel 18.

This year’s poster representative is Blair Luke of Chauvin.

The entertainment at the civic center includes The LA Groove Band, Rough & Ready, Todd Adams, the TARC Bell Choir, First in Space and Faye Jones.

The fishbowl will be inside the civic center for donations. Anyone donating $50 or more into the bowl will be placed in a drawing to receive a two-day getaway at the Marriott Hotel in New Orleans.

“I Helped” T-shirts will be given to contributors stuffing $25 or more into the fishbowl.

Returning for another year to emcee the event are Ray Avet and Joe Malbrough. The honorary chairman of the telethon is Chuck Weaver.

Last year’s broadcast raised more than $72,000 for Cerebral Palsy of Louisiana. The money pays for clients’ medical equipment including wheelchairs and prescription shoes.
