Operation 2007 care packages for soldiers kicks off

The Blue Star Mothers of Louisiana #2 are collecting items to fill care packages for our troops and need your help.

Through June 31, items are being collected. Monetary donations to help the 501C non-profit group defray shipping costs are also being accepted.

Event coordinator Suzie Johnston is also in need of a storage area to hold the items until they are shipped.

“Remember, everything has to be individually wrapped,” Johnston said. “If you know of a soldier who needs a care package, please feel free to give us their name and address.”

Among the items wanted are: stationary and envelopes; greeting cards (to send home); phone cards (AT&T are best); music CDs; movie DVDs; toothbrushes; dental floss; Q-tips; Wet wipes; lip balm; feminine hygiene products; razors; deodorant; toothpaste; conditioner; shampoo; lotion (travel sizes); sun block; eye drops; comb/brush; disposable cameras; flashlights; Icy Hot; Ben-gay; cough drops; bed sheets (white, single size); white cotton socks and undershirts; crossword puzzles; batteries (all sizes); jigsaw puzzles; small footballs or Frisbees; small handheld travel-size games or toys.

Among the non-perishable food items being collected are: candy; gum; mints; cookies; crackers; snack cakes; chips; sunflower seeds; peanuts; energy bars; tuna in pouches; beef jerky; Ramen noodles; granola bars; cereal bars; microwave popcorn; hot chocolate mix; Kool-Aid; tea; Power Aid drink mix; anything in pouches or microwavable; dried fruit; potted meat; and Vienna sausages.

Also, please include a letter or card addressed to “Any Soldier.”
