July 30, 2009Good food, great fishing and great prizes are the norm when it comes to fishing rodeos. But for members of the Krewe of Hercules, their annual redfish rodeo is the cream of the fishing rodeo crop in Terrebonne Parish.
With more than $13,000 in cash prizes up for grabs, event organizers are expecting record crowds Friday, Aug. 7, through Sunday, Aug. 9, at the Harbor Light Marina in Cocodrie.
The weekend’s competition is broken into 14 categories. And the largest overall fish weighed will net one lucky fisherman $200.
Don’t fish? Don’t worry. There’s still plenty of fun for the family.
On Saturday at noon, chefs will vie for bragging rights in the jambalaya cookoff. A live auction will follow the cookoff. And a variety of south Louisiana performers will keep the crowd entertained throughout the weekend.
Hunters will also be excited to learn five guns will be raffled off on Sunday: a Browning A-Bolt 30-06, Beretta Tikka .300 WSM, H&R Buffalo 45-70, Thompson-Contender .50-caliber and a Benelli Supernova 12-gauge shotgun.
“We have something for everyone,” chairman M.J. Plaisance said. “We’re looking forward to a great weekend with great food, entertainment and, most importantly, fishing. We encourage everyone to come out and enjoy the three days.”
Tickets to the rodeo are $25, and are available at all local marinas and area sporting good stores, according to Plaisance. The ticket price includes Sunday’s fish fry. For more information, contact Plaisance at (985) 688-7096 or Danny Picou at (985) 637-0156.
