November 29, 2007December Music
December 3, 2007Fortunately for parents, finding Santa over the next few weeks is a lot easier than scoring a Wii game console.
December is the big guy’s month to shine and, around the Tri-parishes, he will do just that.
Here’s a roundup of activities where St. Nick is sure to stand out in the crowd.
Breakfast with Santa
You’ve got to be ready to get up pretty early in the morning to see Santa. There’s no better place to start than the Kiwanis Club of Houma’s 16th annual Pancake Breakfast Dec. 1. From 7 to 11:30 a.m., you can eat all the pancakes and sausage your belly will hold and enjoy coffee or juice with Pere Noel at Vandebilt Catholic High School’s cafeteria.
The primary fund-raiser for the Kiwanis Club, money from the breakfast helps sponsor Key Clubs in local high schools, according to event organizers.
Each year, about 700 to 800 youngsters turn out for the event.
For a nominal fee, children can have their face painted or picture taken with Santa.
Tickets are $6 at the door.

Morgan City Christmas Festival
Love Christmas? Love festivals?
The Morgan City Christmas Festival Dec. 1 is for you if the answer is “yes.”
The fun kicks off at 8 a.m. in Downtown Morgan City with a 5k run/walk. Live entertainment follows at 11 a.m., and at 12:30 p.m. the Santa Paws Club will judge the best-dressed pooches.
The free family-oriented event features a visit from Santa, children’s activities, shopping and food booths.
Best of all, you’ll have a front row seat for the traditional Morgan City Christmas Parade that rolls at 2 p.m. And Santa? You guessed it, he’ll be there.
Santa on the Bayou
If you missed the breakfast, don’t fret. There’s still plenty of sightings ahead.
From pancakes, St. Nick and his elves scamper to Chauvin for the 10 a.m. launch of Santa on the Bayou also on Dec. 1. The water ride begins near St. Joseph’s Church and cruises 15 miles down Petit Caillou Bayou to Cocodrie.
The best part: Santa and his gang will be throwing fishing tackle to kids of all ages that line the bayou banks.

St. Jules Christmas Bazaar
Everyone knows Santa doesn’t visit St. Mary Parish without his sidekick Thomas the Elf. The duo will make an appearance Dec. 1 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Dec. 2 beginning at noon at the St. Jules Christmas Bazaar. The event includes food, treats and arts & crafts for sale.
St. Jules Church is located at 601 Magnolia St. in Franklin.
Lockport Christmas Parade & Tree Lighting
Saturday, Dec. 1, beginning at 5:30 p.m., the Lockport Christmas Parade includes an appearance by Santa.
The parade takes the traditional route along Church and 8th streets in Downtown Lockport and culminates at Town Hall with the lighting of the city’s Christmas tree.
A Bayou Christmas Sponsors Mom’s Day Out
Kids, here’s your chance to get some alone time with Santa without Mom. While mothers head to the stores, children at A Bayou Christmas’ Mom’s Day Out in Larose will enjoy a visit with St. Nick, Cajun Christmas carols, movies, crafts and snacks.
The day’s fun is $25 (photo included). And there will be plenty of time to pen that “wish list” while you’re there.
The event will be held at the Larose Regional Park, located at Louisiana Highway 308, on Dec. 2 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

La Vie du Bayou Christmas Party
Now don’t ask me how he does it, it’s part of the magic of Santa, but he’ll appear Dec. 2 at the La Vie du Bayou Christmas Party at the Montegut Recreation Center from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The old-fashioned family fun day also includes games, door prizes, a Christmas ornament contest, music, caroling and cake walks.
