Morgan City Main Street is gearing up for its “Fall Frenzy” Nov. 2-4. The three-day event is part of Main to Main, a statewide tourism initiative spotlighting Main Streets across Louisiana.

Louisiana Main Street is a month-long extravaganza of festivals and special events, and invites communities to celebrate their authentic Louisiana heritage, music, arts and crafts, food and uniqueness. The “Louisiana Main to Main, A Cultural Road Show” showcases the culture, commerce and history of community’s like Morgan City and encourages road trips from one Main Street community to the next.

In Morgan City, the fun kicks off Thursday, Nov. 2, with late night shopping downtown. The evening will include music, an art walk and many special promotions to help shoppers get an early start on the holiday shopping season.

The fun continues Friday, Nov. 3, with a block party. From 6 to 9 p.m., De Ja Vu, a Morgan City band, will perform.

In anticipation of Friday night high school football games, weekend college bouts and the Saints away game, Morgan City Street Manager Steve Morell is inviting the crowd to show their spirit. “We’re encouraging all people attending to wear their favorite team colors,” he said.

On Saturday, Nov. 4, the Fall Frenzy hits a fevered pitch with a Tail-Gate Extravaganza. A children’s scavenger hunt will kick off the day’s fun at 10 a.m. The Saints Experience and Gumbo, the New Orleans’ team’s mascot, will also be downtown.

A favorite of young Saints fans, the Saints Experience is a series of interactive inflatables. Youngsters are challenged in “Gumbo’s Playhouse” to outrun the opposition. And in “Kickin’ Butts” drills, youngsters experience firsthand what it’s like to kick a field goal. The setup also includes a Saints “Helmet Bounce” and the “Quarterback Challenge” where kids can test their throwing accuracy. Youngsters can also leave their mark by signing the giant “Saints Fan Jersey.”

That’s not all.

“We’ll have magicians, face painting and more in the downtown area,” Morell said. Participants will receive pom poms or footballs.

And for true LSU fans worried about missing the matchup again Tennessee University, don’t worry. The highlight of the day includes the day’s games – eight hours of football – on a Jumbo Tron, which measures approximately 9 feet-by-15 feet. “We’ve booked a Jumbo Tron, that’s the same size as the Jumbo Tron in Tiger Stadium,” the city manager said. “We have contingencies in place for if the game is broadcast at 2:30 p.m., 6:45 p.m. or 8 p.m. When the LSU game isn’t playing, we’re going to have college football on the Jumbo Tron, which will probably be an SEC game.”

There will be a designated Tail-Gate Zone for tail-gaters and a special site for RVers, he noted. Those attending are encouraged to bring a lawn chair to watch the game.

Fall Frenzy is being hosted by Main to Main, the Morgan City Main Street Program, the Morgan City Downtown Merchants Association and the Cajun Coast Visitors & Convention Bureau.

“Main to Main is a statewide Main Street initiative to encourage neighboring Main Streets to work together for economic development for the state,” Morell said.
