Sony Urban recording artist the Rev. William Murphy is headlining “Word Explosion,” a free four-day celebration sponsored by Beacon Light Baptist Church of Houma.

Set for Aug. 26-29, “Experiencing the Glory Word Explosion” kicks off nightly at 7 p.m. at the Evergreen Cajun Center, 4964 West Main St. in Gray. A prayer service is set for 6 p.m.

Murphy is the musical talent behind hits “Let It Rise,” “I Will Rejoice” and “The Sound.” He’s performing in a free concert Friday, Aug. 29.

A third generation pastor, Murphy’s life emulates his signature song: “Praise Is What I Do.” His grandfather shared the Word at a Detroit church; his father followed suit, pastoring in nearby Pontiac, Mich. It was only natural that as a young man Murphy would become the praise team leader, later transitioning the traditional ministry into one of worship.

In 2001, he moved to Atlanta and accepted a post as the senior minister of worship at various churches. Today, he pastors dream Center Church, aka tdC or, as it has become affectionately known, “the Center.” It is one of Georgia’s fastest growing ministries.

Also appearing at “Word Explosion” are the Rev. R.A. Vernon and Bishop Neil C. Ellis (Aug. 27-28).

Scheduled to preach Tuesday, Aug. 26, Vernon pastors the Word Church of Cleveland, Ohio. Radio personality Kim Che’re, of Praise 94.9 FM in New Orleans, will provide musical selections that night as well.

Ellis is the guest speaker Wednesday, Aug. 27, and Thursday, Aug. 28. He is the pastor of the Mt. Tabor Full Gospel Baptist Church in Nassau, Bahamas. The Rev. Tasha Cobb, of the Dream Center Church in Atlanta, will also perform both nights.
