Each of Hyacinthians’ 17 throwing floats – each of which holds 22 to 26 riders – has a title, which is selected by the float captain and ties into the theme of the parade. This year look for Time Travelers, Pocahontas, The Jetsons, Lady Gaga and Uncle Sam, to mention a few. Riders also design their costumes to represent the theme. This year’s signature color is pink! Look for pink cups, doubloons and logo beads. Parade-goers will want to keep an eye out for the krewe’s signature item: a top hat bearing Hyacinthians’ logo. The embellished hats will be handed from floats. Also watch for Fascinators, small hats on headbands. Both the top hats and fascinators, introduced in 2015, are a Carnival collector’s item. Be sure to notice the newly renovated Queen’s float!
