July 13, 2017A 21-year-old Houma woman is dead of stab wounds and a 24-year-old woman charged with her murder following a Tuesday night brawl deputies say began with an argument over a man.
Two other women also face criminal charges arising from the melee at the Belmere Luxury Apartments near Enterprise Drive.
When Terrebonne Parish deputies arrived there they found Jessica McGehee, 21, bleeding from multiple stab wounds and frantically performed CPR. Bayou Cane firefighters joined in the life saving efforts as did Acadian Ambulance personnel. They transported McGehee to Terrebonne General Medical Center where she was declared dead.
Sheriff Jerry Larpenter said McGehee and 24-year-old Miranda Gilley had been involved in a dispute over a man he did not identify. Gilley allegedly challenged McGehee to come to the apartment complex to fight her. Larpenter said McGehee accepted and showed up with a woman identified as Ashley Pitre. A brawl broke out between McGehee and Gilley, also involving Pitre and McGehee’s mother, identified as Miranda Swartz.
McGehee and Gilley were separated, Larpenter said, but during the process “Gilley pulled a knife from her pants pocket and when the two began fighting again, Gilley stabbed McGehee multiple times.”
Gilley was booked into the Terrebonne Parish jail on a charge of 2nd degree murder. Pitre and Swartz were both charged with disturbing the peace by fighting. An investigation concerning the incident, Capt. Kody Voisin of TPSO said, is continuing.
