March 14, 2018A Chackbay teen charged with terrorizing and assault in connection with alleged threats made against students and staff at Thibodaux High has had his bond reduced from $1 million to $20,000.
But Keith John Usea, even if bonded out from the Lafourche Parish jail, will not be returning to the school, officials have said. He will be subject to an expulsion hearing, as will the teen charged with being willing to aid him in the allegedly planned crime, Mason Dupre.
Both were arrested the week national media was abuzz with fallout from a Florida school shooting incident during which 17 students and staff were killed.
Meanwhile another Lafourche student, 17-year-old Dereck Guidroz of Gheens, was arrested Friday in connection with threats allegedly made against the Lafourche Parish Career Magnet Center in Lockport.
Guidroz is enrolled as a student at Central Lafourche High Schools but attends some classes at the Career Magnet Center. On Friday, Feb. 23, detectives learned Guidroz allegedly made comments to other students at the Career Magnet Center in reference to him “shooting up the school.” Guidroz denied making any such statements. At that time, he was found to have a small amount of marijuana in his possession. Due to information obtained in the investigation, Guidroz was sent to a hospital for a mental evaluation. Meanwhile, detectives continued their investigation, established probable cause for an arrest, and obtained a warrant.
Guidroz was released from the hospital on Saturday, following his evaluation, and he was transported directly to the Lafourche Parish jail in Thibodaux in lieu of a $1 million bond.
Usea’s declarations allegedly were made last year.
His family members maintain that he had intentions of hurting no one.
“I’m ecstatic, and I think if the public would know the facts of the case they would be shocked and ashamed of themselves,” said Usea’s mother, Valerie Folse. “But right now I’m wishing over the moon that my boy will be able to go home soon.”
Folse, divorced from Usea’s father, lives in California.
