On October 2nd 2024 at approximately 7:30 AM, the Houma Police Department school resource officer responded to a report of an arrow that struck a window at Mulberry Elementary School.

The investigation revealed that a subject identified as Mike Himel was practicing with his compound bow and released an arrow in the direction of Mulberry Elementary School and failed to report the damage. The arrow traveled beyond the target and went through a window and lodged in the ceiling of the classroom and was occupied by a teacher and student at the time.

As a result of the investigation, it was determined that the arrow was released in a negligent manner and unintentionally struck the building. Himel was then issued a misdemeanor summons for the charge of Criminal Mischief.

The Houma Police Department would like to encourage the public to educate themselves on the proper safety operations of a compound bow and remind everyone of the responsibility of damage and injury caused by this activity.
