Houma Police arrested two local men Wednesday night on drug charges shortly after the two nearly struck the police unit on Bond Street, according to a department spokesman.

Lt. Todd Duplantis said police first noticed the 1999 Honda Acura when the car abruptly changed lanes, nearly hitting a squad car. He said the driver of the Acura turned off the car’s headlights and quickly turned down Aycock Street. The officer followed, Duplantis said, and the Acura failed to stop at stop signs at Lee and Division avenues.

Police stopped the car in the 1300 block of Point Street, he said.

Lawrence T. Martin Jr., 20, 224 Carolyn Ave., Houma, and his passenger, Jessie T. Theriot, 22, 519 Marmande St., were arrested after officers found 100.8 grams of suspected marijuana inside the Acura, Duplantis said.

The drugs were seized and will be sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab in Baton Rouge to be analyzed, he said.

Martin was charged with reckless operation of a vehicle, operating a vehicle without two headlights, no proof of insurance and possession with intent to distribute marijuana. Theriot was charged with possession with the intent to distribute marijuana.

Duplantis said the two men were transported to the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex where they are awaiting bond.
