Barbara Pierce Bush is the keynote speaker at today’s closing ceremonies of Nicholls State University’s Louisiana Girls Leadership Academy.

The daughter of former President George W. Bush, she has emerged as a role model for young teens since graduating from Yale University in 2004 with a degree in humanities. Bush is a member of UNICEF’s Next Generation steering committee, the CEO and co-founder of Global Health Corps, a board member for Covenant House International and is a Draper Richards Foundation Social Entrepreneur.

Tickets to the event are $25 and must be purchased with the downloadable order form at https://www.nicholls.edu/news/?p=2511.

Refreshments will be served at 2:30 p.m. in the Cotillion Ballroom of the Bollinger Memorial Student Union, followed by service project presentations at 3:30 p.m. and the keynote address at 4:30 p.m.

The Louisiana Girls Leadership Academy, sponsored by the state Center for Women and Government, headquartered at Nicholls, is designed to educate potential leaders in community and public service through responsible leadership. High-achieving girls entering grades 8 through 11 in the 2011-12 school year were competitively selected by committee to attend the academy.
