The Bayou Country Children’s Museum (BCCM) is thrilled to announce a generous $100,000 investment from Rouses Markets, the longtime sponsor of its popular Grocery Store exhibit, to renovate and enhance the experience.

Already one of the museum’s most popular interactive attractions, the updated exhibit will feature interactive technology and authentic elements inspired by Rouses Markets, such as play foods, produce bins, and checkout counters. Children can role-play as shoppers or cashiers, learning important skills like teamwork, communication, and basic operations of a grocery store—all within a familiar, local setting.

“We are incredibly grateful to Rouses Markets for their continued support,” said Rebekah Richoux-Quinn, Executive Director of Bayou Country Children’s Museum. “Their generous investment will bring this exhibit to life in exciting new ways, offering children in our community a fun, educational experience that teaches valuable life skills. This donation is a perfect example of a local business giving back to the community, which is at the heart of what Rouses Markets stands for.”

“We are incredibly proud to support the Bayou Country Children’s Museum,” said Donny Rouse, CEO of Rouses Markets. “My cousins and I learned so much working in our family’s grocery stores growing up, and I know firsthand how meaningful—and fun—that experience can be. All kids, including mine when they were growing up, love to play grocery—whether they’re picking out fruits and vegetables, pretending to be cashiers, bagging groceries, or scanning items. This exhibit gives kids a fun, hands-on way to explore and even work in a Rouses Market.”

Amanda Kennedy, Senior Manager of Brand & Marketing Strategy at Rouses Markets, who is overseeing the exhibit’s development for the family-owned grocery chain, added, “We’ve been developing the grocery store exhibit for most of the year—almost as long as it takes us to build a new store! Now that it’s in fabrication, we’re thrilled to see it come to life. We can’t wait for it to inspire the next generation of chefs, business leaders, and innovators.”

The updated Grocery Exhibit is expected to open to the public by December 2024, with special events and activities planned to celebrate the launch. Visitors can also look forward to ongoing opportunities to engage with the museum through this exciting partnership.
