February 1, 2007A Choctaw man who was hit by an SUV Tuesday as he walked on Choctaw Road in Lafourche Parish died, according to state police.
Floyd Molaison, 55, was struck around 8:45 p.m. by a 2002 Ford Explorer as he walked east on the road, Trooper First Class Rodney Hyatt said. Traci Cortez, of Kraemer, was driving the SUV.
Acadian Ambulance transported Molaison, who suffered serious injuries, to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center, Hyatt said.
Cortez was wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash and was not injured, he said.
At 4 a.m. Wednesday, Troop C was notified by the hospital that Molaison had died, Hyatt said.
State police do not suspect Cortez was under the influence of alcohol or drugs, the trooper said. The Kraemer woman submitted to a voluntary breath test, which did not indicate the presence of either substance, Hyatt said.
He said state police do not know if Molaison was impaired, but that blood was drawn from the Choctaw man and will be tested at the crime lab.
No charges are pending in the crash, he said.
Hyatt reminded the public that, as per state law, pedestrians should walk against traffic and not on the road for safety reasons. Pedestrians should assume that the drivers of motor vehicles do not see them, he said.
