A Galliano man will face sentencing Dec. 19 following his conviction of armed robbery and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Gavin Galjour, 33, was convicted for the Feb. 16 robbery of a man at a FEMA trailer on Jerica Street in Galliano last month.

The incident happened while the victim was visiting a resident in the FEMA trailer. Galjour, who was also at the trailer, pulled a semi-automatic pistol on the victim and demanded his wallet and cash.

Following a two-day bench trial in late November, state District Judge John E. LeBlanc found Galjour guilty of both chares.

“I’m pleased with the judgment of the Court,” Assistant District Attorney Mark Chiasson said after the Nov. 30 ruling. Chiasson prosecuted the case. “The defendant has an extensive criminal record, and is an extremely dangerous individual.”

Galjour’s previous convictions list several felonies including possession with intent to distribute marijuana.

The maximum sentence for the armed robbery charge is 99 years, and 15 for the gun charge, all without the benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence, Chiasson said.

However, Galjour’s extensive felony record warrants prosecution as a habitual offender. If convicted as a habitual offender, he could spend the rest of his life in prison.

“It’s our desire to put this man in prison for as long as possible,” said Chiasson. “Our community is a much safer place with this man behind bars.”

Sentencing is set for 1:30 p.m. Dec. 19 before LeBlanc.
