May 23, 2007Domestic abuse charges land Cut Off man in jail
A Cut Off man was arrested Friday on multiple domestic abuse charges after he allegedly beat his live-in girlfriend, the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office reported.
Deputies arrested Christopher James Serigny Jr., 26, of 182 East 59th St., after Domestic Abuse Specialist Deputy Shirley Collins was called to investigate the incident.
The woman told deputies Serigny hit her in the eye with a hard plastic attachment to the vacuum cleaner, authorities said. Deputies witness bruises around the woman’s eyes and several cuts and abrasions on her elbows and chin.
The incident occurred in front of the couple’s 16-month-old son, authorities said.
While the woman was sitting on her sofa, Serigny threw a battery charger, missing the woman but striking the child, deputies reported.
Several witnesses told deputies Serigny made threatening remarks to his girlfriend at her place of employment.
Serigny was charged with aggravated assault, aggravated battery by domestic abuse, domestic abusenchild endangerment, cruelty to a juvenile and possession of Schedule I drugs (marijuana).
District Judge Buddy Larose set Serigny’s bond at $5,000 and issued a stay-away order.
Serigny has a criminal history of several arrests for simple battery, assault, aggravated second-degree battery, simple criminal damage to property, and possession of marijuana.
The charges levied against Serigny carry a maximum fine of $8,000 in fines and over 20 years in prison.
Argument leads to husband’s arrest for stabbing
Houma Police arrested a local man Friday afternoon after he allegedly stabbed his wife multiple times in the neck area.
Officers charged Bruce L. Parker, 42, of 2627 Madge St., Houma, with attempted second-degree murder.
When police arrived at the Parkers’ home, they found the 37-year-old woman stabbed. Authorities learned that during an argument, Parker stabbed his wife repeatedly with two knives, police said.
In all, the woman received 10 stab wounds to her neck area.
Officers at the scene administered first aid until Acadian Ambulance arrived. The woman was taken to Leonard Chabert Medical Center. Police said she is in stable but guarded condition.
Parker was transported to Terrebonne Parish Jail.
If convicted, Parker faces a maximum sentence of 50 years in prison.
Houma man arrested for April burglary
Houma Police arrested a local man Friday in connection with last month’s burglary of a home in the 100 block of Whispering Oaks Trailer Court.
Authorities said Alex J. Bergeron, 18, of 9024 East Main St., Houma, was charged with simple burglary and jailed at the Terrebonne Parish Jail.
The charges stem from a residential burglary that occurred the night of April 29, police said. Bergeron is accused of having pried the back door to the house and stolen a PlayStation 2 gaming console, a digital camera, laptop computer and various clothes, according to police.
Houma man arrested on drug charges
Houma Police arrested a local man Thursday afternoon after a search warrant conducted at his St. Michel Street residence turned up drugs, authorities said.
Michael D. Robichaux, 50, of 121 St. Michel St., Houma, was charged with possession of legend drugs and transported to the Terrebonne Parish Jail, police said.
After receiving numerous complaints of drug activity at the residence, police got the search warrant. Authorities said several drugs that required a doctor’s prescription n which Robichaux did not have have n were found inside the home. The drugs were seized for evidence.
If convicted, Robichaux faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
Police seek shooter on Columbus, Hobson streets
Houma Police are looking for man who approached a vehicle Thursday and fired six shots into the air before running off toward Levron Street, authorities said.
Officers were dispatched to area at 6:49 p.m. after a caller notified police about a large disturbance possibly involving a gun. When officers arrived, the learned that two men had been arguing in a small, white Plymouth two-door car parked at the corner of Columbus and Hobson streets. The women had been standing near the vehicle, police said.
As the men argued, a black man wearing black shirts and no shirt walked up to the group and fired approximately six shots into the air, police said. The car drove off toward Canal Street; the shooter reportedly ran through the yard of a residence on Levron Street.
Officers patrolled the area but didn’t find the shooter or the Plymouth. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police at (985) 873-6371.
Houma man arrested after slamming phone into girlfriend’s face
A Houma man is facing second-degree aggravated battery charges after he beat his girlfriend in the face with a telephone Wednesday afternoon, Houma Police said.
Manuel A. Moreno, 23, of 236 B Grand Caillou Road, got into an argument with his 28-year-old girlfriend when he got home from work, police said. That’s when he slammed the phone into her face.
The woman was treated at Leonard Chabert Medical Center. Police said she had a one-inch cut above her right eye. She received eight stitches to close the cut.
Detectives later found and arrested Moreno.
If convicted, Moreno faces a maximum fine of $10,000 or a 15-year prison sentence.
Houma man wanted for domestic assault, shooting
Houma Police are searching for a local man accused of beating his 22-year-old girlfriend Wednesday afternoon and firing at her as she left, authorities said.
Kayan Tyson Brown, 20, of 121 Banks St., Houma, allegedly became enraged during an argument with his girlfriend and began punching and kicking her several times, police said. Officers reported the woman’s left eye was extremely bruised and almost swollen shut.
When the 19-year-old friend of the victim rushed in to stop Brown, he threw a chair at her, striking the friend on the side of the face. Authorities said the teen had a whelp on the side of her face.
As the two women left the Banks Street residence, police said Brown shot at them. No one was injured in the shooting.
Brown, who has an outstanding warrant for domestic abuse battery, is known to drive a red Mustang. Houma Police are asking anyone with information as to his whereabouts to call (985) 873-6371.
Thibodaux SWAT arrest four on drug charges
A lengthy investigation into drug dealing in the Thibodaux area ended early Wednesday with the arrest of four people and the confiscation of cash, a gun and over a half-pound of marijuana, Thibodaux Police said.
The department’s Special Weapons and Tactics team (S.W.A.T.) executed a search warrant at 220 Sanders St. at 3 a.m. Simultaneously, a search warrant was served next door at 218 Sanders St. by the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office’s Crisis Management Unit (C.M.U.), authorities said.
With the help of Thibodaux Police K-9 Renate, authorities recovered over the marijuana, Xanax pills, drug paraphernalia, currency and a firearm in the two residences.
Arrested were:
Nathan Robertson, 19, of 220 Sanders St., possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of Xanax with intent to distribute, and possession of a firearm while in possession of a controlled dangerous substance;
Jeremiah Williams, 20, 220 Sanders St., possession of marijuana with intent to distribute;
Clarence Robertson, 53, 218 Sanders St., possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia;
Latisha Robertson, 27, 218 Sanders St., on a contempt of court warrant from City Court.
The investigation was prompted by neighbors’ complaints of people selling and using illegal narcotics and firing weapons late at night in the 200 block of Sanders Street, authorities said.
“The search warrants acquired and subsequent arrest are the direct result of the Bureau of Narcotics commitment to identify, target and arrest any and all drug violators operating in the City of Thibodaux,” department Captain Brian Rhodes said in a release.
Cut Off man arrested after violating protective order
A Cut Off man was arrested Wednesday after he forced his way into the home of a woman and threatened her with a screwdriver, the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office reported.
Sidney Ricard, 37, of 347 East 47th St., was charged with violation of a protective order, aggravated burglary, simple battery, criminal damage to property and resisting an officer.
The incident occurred on Saturday, May 12, when Ricard went to his victim’s home, forced his way in and approached her in the bedroom armed with a screwdriver, the sheriff’s office said. Ricard pushed the woman against the wall and then drive the tool into the wall. He left the home, warning her not to meet with ex-husband on Mother’s Day, according to authorities.
When deputies attempted to arrest Ricard in Golden Meadow, he refused to put his hands behind his back and comply, the sheriff’s office said.
Ricard was booked at the South Lafourche Substation, and then transported to the Detention Center in Thibodaux.
Ricard’s criminal past includes DWI charges, simple assault, drugs (Schedule II), worthless checks and contempt of court. On April 25, he was arrested for domestic abuse battery and reckless operation of a vehicle. Authorities said the protective order Ricard is charged with having violated was issued as a result of that battery.
Raceland teens arrested on drug charges
Houma Police arrested two Raceland teens on drug charges Tuesday night after the 16-year-old driver was caught traveling the wrong way on Honduras Street, police reported.
An officer stopped the 2002 Hyundai Sonata at the intersection of Honduras and Lafayette streets. When the officer made contact with the 16-year-old driver, he detected a strong odor of marijuana emitting from the car, police said. The officer found both marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle.
The juvenile was arrested for unlawful possession of tobacco by a minor, one-way street, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was charged and released to his mother on a custodial promise, police said.
Todd Boudreaux, 18, of 4231 Hwy. 1, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was issued a summons for contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile and possession of marijuana.
The illegal narcotics were seized for evidence.
Teen arrested, second sought in attempted robbery
An alert caller notified Houma Police Monday evening that the Rite Aid Drug Store on Grand Caillou Road was about to be robbed, authorities said.
The caller said a man entered the store carrying a rag or possibly a mask in his hand, looked around, then walked outside to the rear of the building, police said.
Responding officers drove to the rear of the store and found two males standing behind the store wearing what appeared to be white masks over their heads.
The officers ordered the two to get on the ground; however, the males ran toward the AutoZone and then onto East Street. Police did catch one of the suspects, a 16-year-old East Houma boy, who was charged with conspiracy to an armed robbery and resisting an officer.
Police have not located the second suspect. The case remains under investigation, police said.
Panhandling ends with drug arrest
A 50-year-old Houma woman was arrested Monday morning after she reportedly harassed customers for cash at the Lynn Park Shopping Center, Houma Police said.
Cindy Miorana, of 1404 Bond St., Apt. A, had marijuana in her possession, according to authorities. She became uncooperative when police attempted to arrest her.
Miorana was charged with possession of marijuana and resisting an officer. The small amount of marijuana was seized for evidence, police said.
