Felicia Ramos
June 20, 2007A 29-year-old Cut Off woman was killed Sunday after a truck hit her as she walked along La. 1 in Lafourche Parish, state police said.
Felicia Ramos, 29, was walking near Port Fourchon when a Harbor Police officer stopped her. He quickly deduced that Ramos was intoxicated and had her call for someone to come and get her.
At approximately 4:30 a.m., Ramos was picked up by Asbel Cordova Martinez. Authorities said Ramos became suicidal at some point, jumping in the back seat and stabbing herself with an object in the car. When Martinez pulled over onto the shoulder of La. 1 near Leeville, Ramos got out of the vehicle and ran onto the southbound lane of the highway, state police said. She began to “play chicken” with oncoming traffic.
After a car passed, Ramos began to walk back toward Martinez’s vehicle, police said. She walked into the northbound lane of La. 1 and was struck by a northbound truck. Patrick White, 45, of Crystal River, Fla., was driving the 2005 Chevrolet.
Ramos was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Officer.
White, the only occupant in the truck, was wearing a safety belt and was not injured, state police said.
Alcohol is believed to have been a factor on Ramos’ part, according to authorities. Blood tests are being conducted.
White submitted to a voluntary breath test, which showed no signs of alcohol, police said.
No charges were filed against White.
The case is still under investigation.
