Terrebonne Parish deputies aided by Louisiana State Police detectives and U.S. Customs and Border Protection arrested 26 people and are seeking an additional 25, in connections with drug violation warrants issued during the course of the year. There were five additional arrests incidental to the Wednesday sweep.

Two people received misdemeanor summonses.

“Narcotics agents work various investigations throughout the year where probable cause is established to make arrests,” said Maj. Terrey Daigre, commander of Sheriff Jerry Larpenter’s Narcotics Division. “For the most part, arrests are made at that time. At the conclusion of some of these investigations the Narcotics Agents obtain arrest warrants for the suspects, and these warrants are executed on a later date. Ending narcotics investigations in this manner is done for various reasons.”

In past interviews, drug agents have said some of those reasons include the need to build up more evidence against other suspects.

‘Operation Year End Closeout’ began early Wednesday morning, with officers spreading throughout Terrebonne Parish to make their arrests. All of the individuals sought, police said, offered no resistance.

Altogether, Daigre said, 51 suspects were being sought.

Maj. Daigre said 25 of the initial suspects being sought during this round-up are still wanted. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of these or other wanted subjects are encouraged to contact Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office (985) 876-2500 or Bayou Region Crime Stoppers at 1-800-743-7433. Information can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers online at www.crimestoppersbr.org.
