A Dulac teen died Tuesday morning when the truck he was driving crashed, according to State Police.

Wallace Trosclair Jr., 18, was killed around 11 a.m. when his 2001 Ford truck left the road and struck a utility pole as he tried to pass another vehicle on La. 57, Trooper First Class Rodney Hyatt said.

The incident happened in Terrebonne Parish, near Hillary Court, the spokesman said. Trosclair was traveling north when he tried to pass another northbound vehicle in a curve, which was marked as a “no passing zone,” Hyatt said.

Trosclair was thrown from the truck. The Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office pronounced the teen dead at the scene, Hyatt said.

Chelsea Vedros, 19, of Raceland, the only passenger in the truck, sustained moderate injuries in the wreck, Hyatt said. Acadian Ambulance Air Med transported her to Terrebonne General Medical Center for treatment, he said.

Trosclair nor Vedros were wearing their safety belts, Hyatt said.

As per state law, blood tests were performed on Trosclair to determine if impairment was a factor in the crash, Hyatt said. No charges are currently pending, however, Trooper Chris Celestin is continuing to investigate the crash, he said.
