February 19, 2009Houma Police are continuing to search for suspects or witnesses in the fatal shooting of 21-year-old Blake Bonvillain Saturday morning in the 400 block of Coach Court in Houma.
As of press time, Lt. Jude McElroy of the Houma Police detectives Division still canvassing the Coach Court area for witnesses.
Officers waited until daybreak on Saturday to search the neighborhood, going door to door in a searching for someone who may have seen the shooting, McElroy said.
Anyone with information is asked to call 873-6371.
McElroy said Bonvillain was shot in the chest around 3 a.m. in front of the Coach Court mobile home that he shares with his girlfriend, who was not home at the time of the shooting.
Bonvillain lived long enough to go to a neighbor’s house in search of help, police said. He made it to a Fielders Court residence a street away from his home.
McElroy said Bonvillain banged on a front door, but the occupants were reluctant to open the door because they did not speak English.
“They were scared and did not know why he was banging on their door,” the spokesman said.
Another Fielders Court resident asked a neighbor to call the police. Authorities responded to a “suspicious person” call in the area and found Bonvillain, who was severely wounded.
Officers performed CPR on Bonvillain, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to a police report, detectives found a bullet hole and blood on Bonvillain’s front door, which was locked from the inside.
Bonvillain’s death marks Houma’s second murder of the year, according to authorities. It is the second ever to take place on Coach Court, an unpaved deadend road filled with older-model trailers that runs parallel to and between Howard Avenue and Grand Caillou Road.
