Breaking News: Mother guilty of children’s slayings
May 14, 2009Janel Ricca began her new stint as director of the Houma-Terrebonne Civic Center on Monday.
She replaces David Ohlmeyer, who left the position in early April because of differences with Parish President Michel Claudet.
Ricca had been employed at the civic center for eight years from its opening. She spent the last two years as general manager of the Quality Hotel in Houma.
“It’s like coming home,” she said. “I’m not missing a beat to get back. There are lots of familiar faces here.”
Ricca began her career as the civic center director’s administrative assistant, then went on to be event coordinator and event service manager.
“It’s a true story of working your way up and paying your dues,” she said.
Ricca will manage all aspects of the building, from bringing in entertainment to maintenance items.
“It’s a great building,” she said. “I’m passionate about it.”
Ricca hopes to have more Broadway shows, concerts, out-of-town conventions and local meetings.
“Just provide quality entertainment for the people of the parish,” she said.
Ricca said she enjoyed her time at the Quality Hotel, working with the Houma-Terrebonne Chamber of Commerce and other local groups.
Her appointment still requires the approval of the Terrebonne Parish Council.
A recommendation will be made at tonight’s council meeting, with final approval of Ricca’s appointment coming in about two weeks.
