July 9, 2009The alleged mismanagement of funds by one of the Krewe of Tut’s former leaders, Charlotte Brown, will be heard in a Lafourche courtroom Monday.
Brown, who helped cofound the krewe, faces three charges of writing worthless checks valued at $8,545, $445 and $48.83 in Lafourche Parish. Brown pleaded not guilty to the charges in April.
Monday’s pre-trial date in District Judge Walter Lanier’s courtroom will begin at 9 a.m.
A total for how much was owed and how much has been paid was not available as of press time. Reports show that thousands of dollars in worthless checks were allegedly written by Brown to throw the krewe’s first parade in Terrebonne Parish in February.
Businesses and law-enforcement officials reported earlier that more than $9,000 in bad checks were written in Lafourche and at least $5,000 in Terrebonne either from personal accounts or the krewe’s checkbook.
Terrebonne authorities have yet to press charges against Brown.
If convicted, she could be ordered to pay the checks and serve jail time.
