November 1, 2006Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Gallianio man in connection with vandalizing a golf course earlier this month.
Kevin Guidry, 19, 131 Prosperity Lane, was arrested Oct. 20 and charged with 11 counts of burglary and 12 counts of felony criminal damage to property. LPSO Sheriff Craig Webre said in a news release that Guidry was responsible for vandalizing Tidelands Golf & Country Club in Galliano on Oct. 12.
Vandals broke into 11 golf cart sheds at the country club late Oct. 11 or early Oct. 12 and caused serious damage to the carts and golf greens, Webre said. Five of the carts damaged were owned by private clu members; the other six belonged to the club, he said.
Maintenance crews discovered the damage early Oct. 13, the sheriff said. One cart had been driven into a pond; several were rammed into each other; and one was run into the Tidelands Country Club sign, he said. One cart was found up against a fence.
In addition, one member’s golf clubs were strewn about the course and a few were broken, Webre said.
Guidry is being held at the Lafourche Parish Detention Center. State District Judge Walter Lanier Jr. set Guidry’s bond at $50,000, according to the release. If convicted, he faces a maximum fine of $1,000 and two years in jail on each felony criminal damage to property charge, and $2,000 and 12 years jail time on each burglary charge.
Webre said more arrests are expected.
